Comcast today launched an additional layer of multi-gig Internet speeds on its supported fiber network for Xfinity and Comcast Business customers in Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City is the first community in Utah where Comcast is beginning to deliver download speeds of up to 2 Gbps over existing network connections in homes and businesses today. Once rollout is complete, these multi-gig speeds will be available throughout Comcast’s Salt Lake City service area, as well as Comcast’s entire Utah service area.

The new offerings are part of a nationwide rollout that will reach more than 50 million homes and businesses by the end of 2025, making it the largest and fastest Wi-Fi and multi-gig network ever in the United States.

In addition to multi-gigabit download speeds, Comcast is introducing faster upload speeds in Salt Lake City for Xfinity Internet customers who choose xFi Complete. The new speeds will be paired with Comcast’s multi-gig Wi-Fi experience, which delivers the industry’s best combination of speed, coverage and control, powered by one of the world’s first Wi-Fi 6E gateways. Xfinity and Comcast Business customers will receive upload speeds 5 to 10 times faster than their current tiers. Comcast will begin offering 10G-enabled multi-gig symmetric services in 2023. Network data shows that downstream traffic remains 14x greater than upload, so the introduction of symmetric upload speeds will be way ahead of demand.

“One key aspect of the pandemic remains clear: high-speed internet access is essential for everyone,” he said JD Keller, senior vice president, Comcast Mountain West Division. “Utah businesses need reliable, high-speed Internet service – students need to complete homework – and families need to connect with loved ones around the world.
