Helmut Marko is one of the most recognizable names in Formula 1 as a Red Bull motorsport advisor and is also the head of the Red Bull Junior Team.
So far, at least 91 drivers under his control have worn overalls with the Red Bull logo at some point in their careers. Of these 91 drivers, only 15 made it to Formula 1, and eight of them made it to the Red Bull Racing team.
Marko has made candid comments about some of his program’s most high-profile alumni.
Vettel was at Red Bull from 2009 to 2014 and won four consecutive world titles with the team.
Marko said, “He’s very, very analytical. He’s very hardworking.”
“He took optimum advantage of all the technical possibilities. That’s why he was far superior to the talented Mark Webber.”
“When it comes to technical innovation – like a feed diffuser, a supplier of a new tire – he has made the most of his technical expertise. This ability has made him a four-time world champion.” said.

Ricciardo, who raced at Red Bull from 2014 to 2018 and won seven of his eight career victories with the Austrian team, said: “He’s a natural talent with a jovial and extraordinary car control. Daniel is quick from the moment he gets in the car.”
“Even before he came to Red Bull Racing, his career was always on the rise. In his first year at Red Bull Racing, he beat Vettel 3-0.”
“The arrival of Max was the breaking point in Ricciardo’s career. He wanted to keep his distance rather than fight. You know what happened next. That’s too bad!”
“It’s always been nice working with him. His speed is comparable to Max’s, but he lacks ultimate consistency.” said.
Sainz was at Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) from 2015-2017 and was Verstappen’s teammate until 2016.
“It was his bad luck that his teammate was Max,” said Marko.
“The atmosphere between the two was pretty toxic. At that point, I couldn’t find a way to keep him with us and he went to Renault. From there he went to McLaren and then to Ferrari.”
“Carlos is without a doubt one of the best drivers. He was almost on par with Max at Toro Rosso.” said.
Albon was Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull halfway through 2019 and 2020, but could not keep up with the Dutchman’s pace.
“Alex is very fast, but I suspect he’s too good,” said Marko.
“He’s a bit like David Coulthard, everybody loves him but ultimately he’s not tough enough.” said.
Marko also addressed the accident that he thinks caused Albon’s downfall with the team.
“Lewis Hamilton hasn’t ruined his career, but it has overshadowed it,” said Marko.
“He was in second place in Brazil in 2019 before being knocked off the track by Hamilton. Later, Alex wanted to overtake Hamilton at the 2020 Red Bull Ring from the outside but was pushed into the gravel. He could have won the race but came back empty-handed.”
“It took a long time to get over that.” said.

Gasly came to Red Bull in 2019 after racing for Toro Rosso in 2017-2018, but failed to perform as expected, and was transferred back to AlphaTauri halfway through the season.
Marko, “lost to Max at Red Bull.”
“He looked for excuses rather than going over his own mistakes.”
“He’s been at his best since returning to AlphaTauri. He’s a team leader and he’s been doing amazing things.” said.
Tsunoda came to Formula 1 last year and became Pierre Gasly’s teammate at AlphaTauri.
Tsunoda has made progress this season after a tough rookie year.
Marko is optimistic about the future of the “lazy” Tsunoda.
“The silly accidents in his first season eroded his self-confidence,” Marko said.
“Even if we didn’t see it in the results from the start of the season, it’s actually on par with Gasly in terms of speed.”
“We believe in her and she has great potential. She’s extremely funny and lovable when she’s not under stress. Everyone loves Yuki, even if no one gets as angry as she does.” said.

Perez came to Red Bull in 2021 and has had good results with the team with his experience. The Mexican driver has a contract with the team until the end of 2024.
“He came in when he had a win and was in good mood,” said Marko.
“Later she met Max.”
“This caused some uncertainty, especially in qualifying. But he left that behind. Checo is a great team player. Max wouldn’t have won the world championship without him.” said.
Verstappen signed with Toro Rosso in 2014 at the age of 17, becoming the youngest driver in Formula 1 history.
Verstappen moved to Red Bull Racing in 2016 and won his first race with the team.
The Dutchman brought the team a world title last year and has a contract with Red Bull until 2028.
“Max is the fastest driver we’ve ever raced,” said Marko.
“He’s also gradually becoming the ultimate racing driver. He’s the kind of talent you see once in a decade.”
“This perfect combination of speed, performance and confidence is unmatched.”
“In terms of driving, there’s no one faster than him in a single lap. The racing intelligence was there from the start.”
“Max is a champion who inherited the perfect tools for his career from his father, and he’s more comfortable than ever with the world title.” said.
